Saturday by Saturday, to Santiago

Saturday is the chosen day to move forward, week by week, towards Santiago de Compostela. The AACPS – Associação dos Amigos do Caminho Português de Santiago (Association of Friends of the Portuguese Camino de Santiago) has opened registrations for a series of organised walks along the Portuguese Central Camino – Porto and North, starting at the Cathedral of Porto and ending in Santiago de Compostela. The initiative takes place during June and July 2025, spread over eight consecutive Saturdays.

The route in Portuguese territory begins on 7 June, linking the Cathedral of Porto to the Monastery of Vairão, in Vila do Conde, a 27-kilometre walk. This is followed by the stages from the Monastery of Vairão to the Main Church of Barcelos (14 June, 29 km), from Barcelos to the Museu dos Terceiros in Ponte de Lima (21 June, 33 km), and from Ponte de Lima to the Albergue of S. Teotónio, in Valença (28 June, 36 km).

In Galicia, the group resumes walking on 5 July, from Valença to the Albergue Casa da Torre in Redondela (36 km). On 12 July, the route continues to the Lavadoiro de San Amaro in Barro (30 km), then to the Iglesia de Santiago in Padrón (19 July, 31 km), and finally to Santiago de Compostela on 26 July (26 km).

Each stage includes a light meal and transport back to the starting point — or to Valença, in the case of the Galician stages. Registrations are limited to 50 participants per Saturday and close on the Monday before each walk. The registration form is available here, and the place is only secured after payment of the corresponding fee: 10 euros per stage in Portugal and 20 euros per stage in Galicia. After registering, participants should wait to be contacted by the organisers with payment details.
