Guided walk on the Camino de Santiago in Trofa
On September 21, Trofa City Council promotes a guided walk along the local section of the Camino de Santiago, between São Mamede do Coronado and Covelas. The initiative, part of the European Heritage Days and associated with the celebration of World Tourism Day, starts at 9:00 a.m. at Largo do Espírito Santo in São Mamede do Coronado and ends at the São Gonçalo Chapel in Covelas. Participation is free but requires prior registration.
The route follows part of the Camino de Santiago (via Braga) and includes several stops at religious temples and examples of traditional architecture. During the walk, technicians from the Cultural Heritage Office will provide historical and cultural context, highlighting the importance of these heritage elements for local identity and for the Camino de Santiago.
At the end of the initiative, participants will have the opportunity to attend the presentation of the book “Bom caminho: património cultural e paisagístico dos caminhos portugueses de Santiago — o caminho central” (Good way: cultural and landscape heritage of the Portuguese ways of Santiago — the central way), presented by its author, Artur Filipe dos Santos, who will share his perspective on the cultural and landscape richness of the route.
Registration is open until September 17 via email at patrimoniocultural@mun-trofa.pt or by phone at 252 409 290. For insurance purposes, participants must provide their full name, phone number, date of birth, and ID card number. The municipality will provide return transportation for all registered participants.
