Via Lusitana closes applications for it’s grant programme

The deadline for applications to the “Dar Valor ao Caminho” (Adding Value to the Camino) programme ended yesterday, March 19. This is the first grant initiative by the Via Lusitana Pilgrim Association, aimed at supporting those who, on the ground, welcome and support pilgrims travelling the Camino de Santiago in Portugal.

The programme provided financial support of up to 5,000 euros for improvement projects in albergues and other facilities, with applications submitted from across the country. The proposals include energy efficiency improvements, renovation of sanitary facilities, replacement of equipment, the creation of new support spaces and other initiatives to promote Jacobean culture.

According to José Luis Sanches, president of the Board of the Via Lusitana, “Participation in this programme clearly exceeded our expectations, not only in number. The quality and scope of the proposals we received show that those who serve the Camino have a genuine willingness to do more and better for pilgrims.”

José Luis Sanches also thanked the participating entities, reaffirming the commitment to enhancing the Camino and to those who support pilgrims on the ground. The association is already preparing the next edition. The evaluation of applications is currently underway and the selected projects for this first edition will be announced in early April.
