Setúbal distinguishes Portuguese Federation of the Camino de Santiago

The Portuguese Federation of the Camino de Santiago was awarded the Medal of Honor by the Municipality of Setúbal, in the Cultural Activities category, this past Tuesday, September 15. The distinction recognized the Federation’s contribution to the preservation, promotion, and enhancement of the Caminos de Santiago in Portugal, as well as its role in the cultural, heritage, and tourism development of the territories crossed by these routes.

Setúbal is one of the Federation’s oldest members, sits on its governing bodies, and plays a central role in disseminating the values of the Camino, in its certification, and in strengthening cooperation between regions. Ana Rita Dias, president of the Federation’s Board of Directors and Mayor of Vila Pouca de Aguiar, received the distinction on behalf of the associates, partners, and other entities that have supported and sustained the Federation’s work for several years.

According to the Vila Pouca de Aguiar municipal authority, the recognition is an additional incentive for the Federation to continue protecting the Caminos de Santiago, reinforcing its commitment to spreading this European cultural heritage and the values of cooperation, hospitality, and sharing, while also serving as a tribute to those who keep the Jacobean heritage alive in Portugal.. The Federation expressed heartfelt thanks to the Municipality of Setúbal for the honorable distinction.
