Portuguese Camino surpassed 100,000 pilgrims


The Portuguese Camino surpassed the mark of 100,000 pilgrims in 2025. According to data from Oficina del Peregrino (Pilgrim Reception Point at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela), 100,452 Compostelas had been issued by December 14, based on arrivals recorded throughout the year.

According to a statement from the Cathedral of Tui, this figure represents a 6% increase compared to 2024. Statistics show that 38.12% of pilgrims were Spanish, while Portuguese pilgrims accounted for 11.88% of the total, with the remaining pilgrims coming from other countries.

Tui remained the main starting point of the Portuguese Camino, with 41,553 pilgrims registered in 2025, corresponding to 41.83% of the total number of pilgrims on the route that year, confirming its central role among departure points.

Data from Oficina del Peregrino also indicate that the Portuguese Coastal Route recorded 89,265 pilgrims in the same period, with Porto as the most frequent starting location. In parallel, the French Camino continued to attract the highest number of pilgrims overall, with 241,491 registrations in 2025, and Sarria, in Galicia, remaining the most popular starting point.
