New leadership at the AACS of Viana do Castelo
Verena Mooser is the new president of the Associação dos Amigos do Caminho de Santiago (Friends of the Camino de Santiago Association – AACS) of Viana do Castelo. She was elected at the most recent general assembly, held at a time when the association was facing a leadership deadlock due to the absence of candidate lists. During the meeting, Verena Mooser stepped forward and took on the challenge of forming the Board.
Her proposal came together during the session, as she gathered the nine members required to form the governing bodies, including associates with previous leadership experience. This solution helped stabilize the internal structure and ensured the regular functioning of the association.
Born in Mexico and now 55 years old, Verena Mooser has lived in Venade, in the municipality of Caminha, since 2020, together with her husband, Ulisses Espinosa. Both are actively involved in the association’s activities and serve as hospitaleros at the albergue in Caminha, where they welcome pilgrims of various nationalities.
Founded in 2004, the AACS is dedicated to promoting the Camino de Santiago routes, maintaining and marking the paths, and providing direct support to pilgrims. It manages the albergue in Caminha, carries out volunteer initiatives, organizes walks and community events, and develops projects aimed at enhancing sections of the Camino de Santiago in the Alto Minho region.
Via Lusitana wishes the new Board great success and the continuation of their excellent work.
