Leiria Tourism Office hosts exhibition on the Camino
The Leiria Tourism Office has been hosting, since October 4, an exhibition dedicated to the Camino de Santiago, bringing together objects and memories linked to the pilgrimage. Under the title “Santiago: O Caminho de quem escuta com os pés” (“Santiago: The camino of those who listen with their feet”), the exhibition invites visitors to follow a path, just as pilgrims would, evoking the idea of continuity.
Among the pieces on display are photographs of monuments and the various routes crossing Portugal, statuettes and symbols associated with Santiago, as well as craft items, including the traditional pot used in the Queimada Galega (a traditional Galician alcoholic ritual drink prepared with fire). There is also a set of illustrations and mementos that recount the personal experiences of those who have walked the Camino.
The exhibition is the result of a partnership between a group of Portuguese pilgrims and the Center of Portugal Tourism Board, and includes items from the collection of the Associação Espaço Jacobeus (Jacobean Association) as well as others loaned by institutions and pilgrims. The result is a diverse collection that reflects the symbolic and cultural richness of the pilgrimage tradition.
The exhibition can be visited until the end of October, every day from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., at the Leiria Tourism Office, located at Jardim Luís de Camões (telephone +351 244 848 770).
