Famalicão invites volunteers to help preserve the Camino

Vila Nova de Famalicão Municipality will promote, over two consecutive weekends, a maintenance operation on a stretch of around 20 kilometers of the Camino de Santiago that crosses the municipality. The initiative will take place on July 19, 20, 26 and 27, always starting at 09:00 AM, and is aimed at all those who wish to help preserve the route.

On the first day, work will take place between Ponte da Lagoncinha and the Church of Cabeçudos. On July 20, cleaning will be done on the section connecting Quinta da Boamense to the Church of São Tiago de Antas. On July 26, the intervention will take place between the Church of São Tiago de Antas and the Parish Council of Vale São Cosme, concluding on July 27 with maintenance of the route between Vale São Cosme and the Natural Park of Portela.

Registration is free and can be done online on the official website of the Municipal Volunteering Office of Vila Nova de Famalicão, at http://voluntariado.vilanovadefamalicao.org/, where all the necessary information for participants is also available.

The municipality emphasizes that these maintenance actions contribute not only to ensuring better conditions for pilgrims and visitors, but also to strengthening civic involvement and the community’s sense of belonging to the territory. The local strategy has also complemented heritage enhancement with projects that promote local identity and historical memory, ensuring that the route remains accessible, clean and well signposted for all who travel it.
