Documentary “Caminhamos Juntos” premiered in Mira

Last Friday, July 31, the documentary “Caminhamos Juntos” (“We walk together”) premiered at the Raul Almeida Atrium in Mira to a sold-out audience. Frankelim Amaral made the film during a 12-day journey along the Portuguese Central Route, in which seven pilgrims covered 248 kilometers between Porto and the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. The film recounts the group’s experiences.

The director began preparing the film in 2025, when he invited six people to join him on a pilgrimage. The six participants had similar stories, shaped by grief or illness, longing, hope, or a search for meaning. For different reasons, they all questioned their faith. Mutual support brought them closer along the way, and today they consider themselves a family, with renewed faith and the intention of returning to the Camino.

Frankelim Amaral emigrated to France at the age of 17 and published several books before deciding to return to Portugal and walk the Camino de Santiago for the first time. The experience did not dispel his doubts but brought him peace of mind, and since then he has walked other Camino routes, including one with his son. In 2025, the author documented the group’s journey, first in the book “Caminhamos Juntos” and then in the documentary, with the support of the parish community.

The 149-minute feature-length documentary was produced by Marco Rodrigues, with cinematography by Jorge Laranjeira, narration by Carla L. A. Silva, music by Inês Passarinho, and design by Sérgio Marques. Further screenings are planned at municipal auditoriums along the Camino de Santiago, as well as its future presentation in other countries.
