Albergue de Marinhas celebrates 15 years
The São Miguel de Marinhas albergue, in Esposende, celebrates its 15th anniversary on May 13. The date, which marks the longevity of a reference accommodation for pilgrims on the Coastal Route, will be celebrated on site with a social gathering with snacks at 7:00 p.m., open to the community. The event is organized by the Municipality of Esposende, Via Veteris – Associação Jacobeia (Jacobean Association), the Marinhas Parish Council and the local delegation of the Portuguese Red Cross.
Located by the sea in a former granite building in Campo de São Miguel, the albergue, with capacity for 30 people, is owned by the Marinhas Parish Council and managed by the Marinhas Delegation of the Portuguese Red Cross. The facilities were renovated in 2020 and pilgrims are hosted by Red Cross staff, who welcome pilgrims and help them prepare for the next stages of the Camino.
Since its opening in May 2011, the albergue welcomed 51,407 pilgrims by the end of 2025, from Spain, the United States, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Poland and the United Kingdom, among other countries. A symbol of hospitality in the region, it has contributed to putting Esposende on the map as a point of passage and welcome for pilgrims on one of the most important Jacobean routes.
