Póvoa de Lanhoso inaugurates Camino’s signage
The municipality of Póvoa de Lanhoso inaugurated the Portuguese Camino de Santiago Leon de Rosmithal’s signage last Sunday, March 22, during the S. José walk, as part of the municipal festivities, in an initiative that brought together around 200 participants.
The walk began in the parish of Esperança and passed through Sobradelo da Goma and Travassos, parishes known for the tradition of filigree. Along the route, participants raised a toast with moscatel and banana and took part in the planting of 10 cork oaks, in an area that the municipality intends to develop to support future pilgrims and provide a place to rest.
In the municipality of Póvoa de Lanhoso, the inauguration marked the placement of directional signage along around 25 kilometers of the route, including bollards, painted arrows, information panels and a totem. The route crosses several parishes and reflects work that began in early March.
The Portuguese Camino de Santiago Leon de Rosmithal crosses 12 municipalities in northern Portugal and connects Freixo de Espada à Cinta to Braga, over a distance of around 260 kilometers. The itinerary is inspired by the pilgrimage initiated by Leon de Rosmithal, Baron of Blatna, on November 26, 1465, to Santiago de Compostela, passing through Portugal.
