Amarante improves signage on the Camino de Santiago

Amarante enhanced the signage on the Camino de Santiago along the section between Carneiro and Telões, making it more visible and easier to follow. The municipality’s work improved wayfinding conditions along the route through Amarante, thereby increasing safety for pilgrims passing through these communities.

The work replaced markers that were missing because of natural deterioration or vandalism, a situation that reduced visibility and disrupted the continuity of the route markings. The existing arrows were retained and supplemented by marker posts with directional signs.

According to the municipality, the new equipment better withstands outdoor exposure and weather conditions and therefore lasts longer. The municipality links the improvement to stronger support for pilgrims and greater recognition of the Camino in Amarante’s cultural and religious tourism.
