St. James’ Day Celebrations
This year, St. James’ Day, July 25, will feature around 30 events taking place through the end of the month in different locations across Portugal. The Federação Portuguesa do Caminho de Santiago (Portuguese Federation of the Camino de Santiago) gathered the information and published the calendar, which includes activities promoted by its members and various partner organizations. The program highlights the importance of the Portuguese Caminos in culture, spirituality, community life, and tourism.
The celebrations combine religious, cultural, community, and social activities. These include walks, pilgrimages, religious ceremonies, and gatherings among pilgrims. The program also features concerts, exhibitions, popular festivals, volunteer activities, and other cultural and community initiatives. The events are open to local residents, visitors, and pilgrims and promote hospitality, sharing, and connection.
These celebrations are supported by the daily work of associations, municipalities, albergues, volunteers, and other participants in an increasingly active national network connected to the Portuguese Caminos. Cooperation between the Federation and its members has helped improve the routes, raise their profile, and create the conditions needed to sustain them in the future.
Via Lusitana thanks the Federação Portuguesa do Caminho de Santiago for compiling and providing the list of celebrations and shares it here with its readers.
