New short film promotes the Coastal Route
The Municipality of Caminha presented the short film “CAMINHA – Promoção do Caminho Português da Costa | Um Caminho, muitas histórias” (CAMINHA – Promoting the Portuguese Coastal Route | One Route, Many Stories) to representatives from the hotel, local accommodation, restaurant, and retail sectors. Produced by Creative Session, the video showcases the landscapes, heritage, and local communities through the experiences, emotions, and stories of pilgrims.
The production features the Portuguese Coastal Route through the parishes of Âncora, Vila Praia de Âncora, Moledo, Cristelo, Caminha, Seixas, and Lanhelas. Testimonies from those who travel the route highlight the authenticity of the area, the hospitality of local communities, and the quality of the route, as well as the historical and cultural heritage associated with the Camino.
The presentation included contributions from Diogo Fernandes of Creative Session; Liliana Silva, mayor of Caminha; Luís Machado Sá, commander of the GNR (Portuguese National Republican Guard) in Vila Praia de Âncora; and Liliana Barreiro, a pilgrim and member of the Associação dos Caminhos de Santiago (Association of the Caminos de Santiago). Joana Whyte moderated the presentation, which also featured a musical performance by Sara Pereira and Alexandre Carvalho.
The municipality also presented a range of merchandise developed with local business owners and artisans, inspired by the heritage and identity of the route, including T-shirts, bookmarks, notebooks, postcards, jewelry, and other items. The products will be available at the Caminha and Vila Praia de Âncora Tourist Offices and may also be sold by interested local businesses.
The municipality highlighted the Camino as a priority for the tourism, cultural, and heritage development of the county and sees the annual growth in pilgrim numbers as an opportunity to boost the economy and increase Caminha’s visibility. The Camino’s spiritual and cultural value also helps preserve the county’s tangible and intangible heritage and strengthen its identity.
