The Geira and Arrieiros Route now has a complete Guide
A new guide dedicated to the Geira and Arrieiros Route has been published, providing detailed information on the ten stages between Braga and Santiago de Compostela. Written by Carlos da Barreira, José Manuel Almeida, and Gaetano Pucca, the 186-page publication will be presented on July 31 at 7:00 PM at the Caldelas Auditorium, in Amares.
For each stage, the guide provides maps, elevation profiles, and information on distances, elevation gains, terrain, and difficulty levels. It also includes details on accommodations, restaurants, bars, pharmacies, and other services for pilgrims, as well as more than 200 photographs of monuments, churches, historic buildings, bridges, Roman milestones, waterfalls, and rivers.
Portuguese and Spanish versions of the guide have been published, while English and Italian editions are expected before the end of the year, with additional languages possibly to follow. The publication will still undergo minor text and layout corrections and may incorporate suggestions from pilgrims before the final version, expected by the end of October.
The book launch will be open to the public, and the guide will be available at a reduced price during the event. It will also be available on Amazon for €19 and at several bookstores specializing in the Camino de Santiago. Proceeds will help cover the cost of a website dedicated to the route.
The Geira and Arrieiros Route was presented in Ribadavia and Braga in 2017, recognized by the Church in 2019, and featured in publications by Eixo Atlántico (Association of 41 Local Authorities in Galicia and Northern Portugal) in 2020 and Porto and North of Portugal Tourism in 2021. It is also included on the list of cultural routes that the Government of Galicia plans to officially recognize this year and is one of the few with a direct connection to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.
