The Valencia de Alcántara – Marvão Camino de Santiago will add a new section to the Alentejo and Ribatejo Camino de Santiago routes, connecting Spain to Portugal. The route, around 24 km long, will connect to the Caminho Nascente (Eastern Route) via Alpalhão, in the municipality of Nisa, and is already being waymarked.

The creation of this route began to be prepared at the start of the year and was discussed during FITUR (International Tourism Trade Fair), held in January in Madrid. According to the Entidade Regional de Turismo do Alentejo e Ribatejo (Regional Tourism Board of Alentejo and Ribatejo – ERTAR), the route is expected to become part of the European Camino de Santiago network.

The project is being developed by ERTAR in partnership with Marvão City Council and the Ayuntamiento de Valencia de Alcántara. Funding is provided by the Interreg VI-A Spain-Portugal (POCTEP) 2021-2027 programme, with co-financing from the European Union.
