Porto inaugurates pilgrim support office
The União Internacional de Peregrinos Jacobeus (International Union of Jacobean Pilgrims) will inaugurate tomorrow, April 11, at 9:30 a.m., the Oficina do Peregrino (Pilgrim Office) in Porto, at Rua da Pena Ventosa 38, next to the Sé (Cathedral), near the starting point used by many pilgrims. According to the organization, this space reinforces Porto’s role as one of the main starting points of the Portuguese Camino and contributes to more structured, higher-quality support in response to growing international demand.
The office is intended to welcome and support pilgrims, bringing together in one place the issuing of credentials, access to maps and information, advice, and logistical guidance, while also directing them to support services provided by specialized partners. It opens daily at 7 a.m., in line with when most pilgrims set out.
The space where the Oficina do Peregrino will operate was provided by the Porto City Council, within an initiative that reflects the institutional, cultural, and spiritual dimensions of the Camino. The inauguration will be attended by the auxiliary bishop of Porto, Dom Roberto Mariz, and a representative of the municipality.
