Portucalense University addresses the Portuguese Camino

Portucalense University, in Porto, is developing academic work focused on the Portuguese Camino, addressing key issues related to its management, valorization and long-term sustainability as a historic, cultural and religious route with growing territorial impact.

One of the main strands of this approach is the Short Master in Cultural Itinerary Management – Portuguese Camino, aimed at professionals and decision-makers working in the field of cultural heritage. The program combines theoretical grounding and case analysis with practical components focused on planning, implementation and evaluation of projects. Applications are open until February 26.

The course is scientifically coordinated by Fátima Silva, who emphasizes the importance of equipping participants with tools to turn historic heritage and cultural tradition into opportunities for economic and social development, while enhancing the territory and the experience of pilgrims and visitors.

Portucalense University also promotes, on February 3 at 3:00 p.m., the seminar “Cultural Itinerary Management – Portuguese Camino”, dedicated to analyzing the route as a driver of cultural, social and economic development, with attention to sustainable tourism practices and cultural animation along the Camino.

The seminar will feature contributions from José Manuel Tedim, professor at Portucalense University; Paulo Almeida Fernandes, professor at NOVA University of Lisbon and member of the International Committee of Experts of the Camino de Santiago; Jorge Sobrado, City Councillor for Culture at Porto City Council; and historian Joel Cleto. Participation is free, subject to mandatory registration.
